A one-sentence story: Annoyed

Pursed lips;
hands in pockets;
knotted stomach;
racing heart;
angry words;
no sleep;
massive headache;
freaking annoyed!

Waiting for change…

“So I fell down the stairs
again today.
This time I made it
all the way down
to the bottom
and hit the concrete.
One day it’s gonna stop.
I know it will… ”

These were the words
she said to me,
with a sad smile.

I sighed and shook my head
in disbelief
but deep down
I wanted to yell at her
to WAKE UP!!!

How could she love a man
who abuses her?
She thinks one day
he’ll change.
What is she teaching her kids?

I see her almost daily.
She’s off in space
escaping her reality.

The sadness consumes her
but she carries on.
When will she wake up?

When will she stop waiting
for change that may never come?
When will she find
the strength to move on?

My Legacy

She’s growing up fast.
She’s making me proud.
She knows things I didn’t teach her.

I smile when she repeats
the lessons learned from me.

I cringe when someone else
infected her brain
with unsavory thoughts.

I teach her
to think for herself.

I remind her that
she should be loved
for more than her striking beauty.

I encourage her
to keep trying.

I love her amazing mind.

I pray that she will outgrow
her short-tempereredness
much sooner than I did.

I prepare her for the world
as best I can.

She’s my baby girl.

Darn good coffee cake

Me:
Yum this is good coffee cake!

My brain:
Well A, it’s 11pm, that’s enough eating for the night.

Me:
But one more piece won’t hurt!
It will be many hours before morning.
You know I can’t sleep when I’m hungry.

My brain:
Why do you choose to learn things the hard way?

Me:
What are you talking about?

My brain:
(silent)

5 minutess later…

Me:
Uggg, I ate too much!

My brain:
Yeah, THAT’S what I was talking about!

Me:
Why didn’t you warn me?

My brain:
Ms Dumb-dumb, I tried!

Tripping

Tripping over my feet today…
It’s as if my legs
can no longer carry me.

Standing all day,
it’s just what I do.
Always on the move,
busy like a bee.

Keeps me fit,
keeps me alert,
but I guess today
my limbs rebel
because as it seems,
I’m just tripping.

Road trip reflections 10:17pm

Alone with my thoughts
as the night lights flicker by.
I’ve traveled this road alone before,
but this time it’s different with her here.
I can’t relax, I’m on duty.
There’s no downtime.
I can’t really rest.

A full moon hangs in a starless sky.
It seems lonely without its companions
as I am without mine.
I miss him terribly!

I’m hoping this trip
brings some much needed closure.
The emotional and financial cost
is much too high
to drag this out indefinitely.

The busy streets
bring back mixed memories
of a life that was bittersweet.
I’ve accomplished a lot here
but now my new life
eagerly awaits my return.
I miss my new home.
I’m ready to move on.

Worth saving…

Confused,
she attempted to let go
of a situation she couldn’t comprehend.

Uncertain,
she pondered the reason
for her presence in his life.

Frustrated,
she questioned if what they had
was worth saving.

Relieved,
he asked her to be patient,
to give him a little more time.

Surprised,
he held on tighter
than she thought he ever would.

Elated,
she was comforted to know
he cared enough to ask her to stay.
